The hypothesis was that intensive farming of Indian corn with liquid animal manure damages the soil structure and facilitates erosion. In a field study of four years research was done on the possible reasons for this such as the cation saturation of the exchanger, the dynamic of the organic substance and the mechanical stress caused by machines. The research area was situated on a para-brown soil over loess and had been used for the single-crop cultivation of Indian corn for the last 17 years. On 39 parcels several factors were studied separately and in combination: amount and type of cations and organic manure applied, crop rotation and mechanical stress. One parcel was planted solely with Indian corn and manured for a comparison. It turned out that parcels with a low pH-value and a high content of organic matter had stable soil aggregates. This allowed a high capacity of water absorption and thus the least considerable erosion. The application of lime and machine impact on the other hand facilitated erosion. A change of the erosion through liquid animal manure or the percentage of Indian corn was not visible, nor was a growing tendency of the soil towards erosion after 21 years.
