[Last update: 06.05.2009] [ MAN 38 ] Inventory of oblong and keyhole shaped grave ditches of the Late Bronze Age and Early Iron Age in the area between Aller and Dordogne.Otto Mathias Wilbertz (Ed.) Hardcover From the Neolithic until the Early Middle Ages, large parts of Western and Central Europe saw the construction of graves with ditched enclosures and sometimes post complexes, which have only been inconsistently and incoherently been published yet. Against this background, the Bronze Age Campaign of the European Council from 1994-1996 was taken as an occasion for the compilation of a comprehensive inventory for future continuation as a data-base including elongated ditched enclosures definitely or most likely of a Bronze Age or Early Iron Age date from Germany [30 examples], Belgium [10], France [50], and the Netherlands [50]. This work aimed not so much at completeness as rather at the presentation of the distribution pattern in its overall extension and a presentation of the monuments in written text and illustration according to topographical order as a basis for future research. The authors do not so much attempt to provide explanations but rather describe different phenomena according to a homogeneous terminology. Each enclosure is listed individually with information on size, orientation, causeways, finds, context, dating, and publications
