The author belongs to a generation which experienced the impact of deceptive national propaganda as children and could appreciate the precious gift of freedom only as adults. It is these impressions which resulted in the present volume uniting 11 essays about the topics “Evolution: where to and wherefore ?”, “Botanical crime”, “Language, writing and intellect”, “On the ‘upright German’”, “Language and becoming human”, “Money”, “Time”, “Humanity and religion”, “On the roots of Maya culture”, “Yin and Yang” as well as “On the change of values”. The author’s aim is to warn us about the manipulation of our thoughts and the loss of our ethical values, because according to him, misused freedom cannot last. Also, he turns to questions such as “What did our creator do on the eighth day of creation and after ?”, “Is nature acting immorally ?”, “Which purpose does evolution serve?”, “Could Neanderthals speak?”, “Why is Japanese thought different from European thought ?”, “Were individuals in Europe 300.000 years ago capable of forward planning ?”, “Money as a symbol of value – a precursor to writing ?”, “What did the native cultures of Latin America have in common with the cultures along the rivers Euphrates, Tigris, Jordan and Nile ?”, “The significance of religion for humankind”, “Time as a master of mathematics”, “Sources of shortcomings in our society”, “Gender relations”, “About manipulated thinking” and finally the problem “How do we proceed ?”.
