The volume contains papers presented at a symposium of the Bavarian Society of Subaquatic Archaeology dealing with evidence from Bavaria, Baden-Württemberg, the German parts of the North Sea and Baltic Sea, and from Switzerland. The topics represented are surveys in Bavarian lakes conducted in order to close gaps in the present knowledge [Beer], treasure fever and responsibility [Ruoff], research and conservation of monuments at lake and bog settlements in south western Germany [Schlichtherle], surface documentation as a survey method in scuba-dive archaeology in Lake Constance [Kolb], survey methods using dry ice drilling [Eberschweiler, Riethmann] and geo-radar in inland waters [Leckebusch]. Other themes are modern survey methods applied in subaquatic archaeology [Kramer], functioning and reachable precision of the Global Positioning System - GPS [Siemer], surveys using hydro-acoustics [Müller, Wendt] as well as digital processing of air-photographs and geophysical survey methods in subaquatic archaeology and on water-logged sites [Becker].
